If at any time you have Safe Environment questions,
please contact the Safe Environment Coordinator for Holy Angels at 262-334-3038.
Since 2004 the Archdiocese has required all staff and those working or volunteering with minors to take the Safe Environment Class and have a background check run. You only take the class one time and it is good forever. However, every 5 years a new background check needs to be run. In 2016 the Archdiocese of Milwaukee updated their Safe Environment system to an online database. Everyone who has ever taken the Safe Environment class, was put into the system. You may not even realize you already have an account. If you think you have taken the class, or if there is even a possibility that you have taken the class, please contact Lindsey, before you create a new account. She can give you your username and a temporary password so you can log on.
Initial Safe Environment - which includes the Class
If you have NEVER taken the class and DO NOT have an account please follow the Instructions for Completing INITIAL Safe Environment. Be aware this process can take a few weeks because along with all of the online questions you need to answer, you will also need to sign-up for an in person class that can be taken anywhere in the Archdiocese of Milwaukee. The background check will not run until after you take the class.

Renewal of Safe Environment - Renewing Background Check
If you have taken the class and have been told you need an updated background check, please follow the instructions for Renewal. Your part will take about an hour. Once you are finished, the background check will run and that will take a few days to come back.

The Archdiocese of Milwaukee (and Holy Angels) is committed to
keeping children safe every day throughout the year.
Every priest, deacon, parish or school staff member, teacher and lay minister that is employed by a parish or school and any volunteer working with minors in our archdiocese is required to meet three requirements:
1-Attend a Safe Environment Education Session. This is a child abuse and maltreatment prevention program that must be attended in person. The current curriculum taught in this session is Circle of Care by the Archdiocese of Omaha.
2-Pass a Criminal Background Check. This check is done at the start of employment or beginning volunteering with minors and must be done every five (5) years subsequently. The criminal background check is conducted through the CMG Connect portal. The criminal background check reports are reviewed and certified through the collaboration of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee Safe Environment Office and parish/school Safe Environment coordinators.
3-Sign the Code of Ethical Standards for Church Leaders Link to Code of Ethical Standards. This code of conduct provides volunteers and employees with expectations and guidelines for how they interact with and conduct themselves in ministry. This code must be signed prior to beginning volunteering or working in a parish or school and is reviewed every year.
As Catholics, we are all tasked with participating in ensuring that every child is able to feel safe in our parishes and schools. In addition to our safe environment requirements for adults, the Archdiocese of Milwaukee requires all parish religious education programs and Catholic schools to provide instruction on personal safety and abuse prevention in age-appropriate lessons for all children in grades kindergarten through twelfth grade enrolled in their programs. Parishes and schools are required to annually report their compliance with this requirement.
