UNOFFICIAL Minutes of Holy Angels Parish Council Meeting
October 16, 2008

In Attendance:  Fr. Jerry Brittain Fr. Rick Wendell, Paula Beine, Harry German, Jack Trzebiatowski,  Earl VanderWielen, Colleen Mas, Tim Briscoe Sandy Lang.  Guests:  Jim Schmidt, Herb Tennies, Cheryl Wojtasiak, David Beine, Nancy Monday. 

Absent:  Mike Nowack, Dan Hanrahan, Carol Bork-Bednarek, Don Felix. 

Opening Prayer / Scripture Reflection / Personal Prayer:  Led by Colleen Mas. 

Property / Grounds Committee Review:  Herb Tennies and Jim Schmidt gave an overview of the state of the campus, including an internal and external property report.  Herb has served on the committee for 25 years!  The Committee consists of Herb and Jim plus Al Peters (retired contractor), John Beisbiere, Marvin Wolff(maintenance at WB Mutual), Sandy Lang, Pete Levin (WB police dept.), Jack Koenings (WB cabinet designer), and Scott Schmidt.  In the near future, the parish will need to consider updating energy items, replacement of the kitchen grease trap, repair of the bell tower roof, and waterproofing of the mortar and limestone. 

Guest Discussion:  Cheryl Wojtasiak presented findings related to concerns over playground and school safety procedures, stemming from an incident involving her son.  Included in her report was a summary of policies from other local schools.  The council’s liaison to the school committee will seek a meeting of the school committee to further review and evaluate current policies.  Council will revisit this topic at the next meeting. 

Donation discussion:  Council discussed possible creation of a “contingency fund” through donations received.  This will be further discussed at a later meeting. 

Approval of Previous Minutes:  Approved September minutes by consensus. 

Review Goals and Accomplishments:  Tabled to next meeting. 

Best Hiring Practices:  Tabled to next meeting. 

Committee Reports:

Human Concerns –   No report.

Faith Formation –   No report.  Fr. Rick noted that the Adoration Committee hopes to institute Eucharistic Adoration early next year, with a speaker at Masses for the kick-off weekend, possible prior to Lent.  Adoration will be scheduled from 7 AM Monday through 8 AM Saturday.  The group hopes to have web-based sign-ups and administration. The Committee has gathered info from other parishes in the diocese as reference. 

Finance – Collections through envelopes have followed a downward trend of late.  Committee discussed possible cuts to expenditures, such as salaries.  The Festival Committee presented a final financial wrap-up.

School-  Enrollment stands at 390.  The Committee is exploring an engineering curriculum as the next component of the Stehling Foundation.  Possible goals of the committee include wellness policy review, support of the Capital Campaign, cooperation with the Vision for the 21st Century report, and evaluation of the religion assessment tools.  The Development Subcommittee reported that the golf outing went well, SCRIP is increasing, the HA Messenger may be scaled back, Adult Open Volleyball started up for the school year, and collection for the food pantry in conjunction with trick-or-treat.  Committee approved changes to By-Laws, which will be forwarded to Parish Council for approval.  SPA (School Planning & Accreditation) parent meetings will be held in November with committee members as scribes.

Ad Hoc Committee for Past Due School Tuition – Colleen Mas and Sandy Lang reported that progress continues to be made toward formulating a flow chart as well as other methods for handling tuition collection.

Seniors -  Trip to Our Lady of Snows included 27 participants, many of whom were new participants.  The group is considering a trip to the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in the future.
