Minutes of Holy Angels Parish Council Meeting
November 20, 2008
Parish Rectory, 7:30 PM
In Attendance: Fr. Jerry Brittain Fr. Rick Wendell, Paula Beine, Harry German, Earl VanderWielen, Mike Nowack, Don Felix, Dan Hanrahan, Carol Bork-Bednarek, Tim Briscoe, Colleen Mas. Guests: Lauren DuCharme, Mark Jansen.
Absent: Sandy Lang, Jack Trzebiatowski.
Opening Prayer / Scripture Reflection / Personal Prayer: Led by Mike Nowack.
Pastoral Ministry Report: Lauren presented an overview of the past year for her position as Pastoral Care Minister. Activities include coordinating correspondence/care for the elderly, homebound, sick and dying, publication of a quarterly newsletter, and coordination of pastoral care efforts in collaboration with St. Frances Cabrini. Areas for future dreams and improvement include strengthening the bereavement program; exploring ways to address transitions between hospital and home; coordinating communication among parish children and Sagrada Familia children; establishing an adopt-a-grandparent program with parish families; and improved pastoral care training.
Approval of Previous Minutes: Approved October minutes by consensus.
School Committee: Student health and safety policies: The School Committee reviewed current policies and procedures regarding student health and safety and found them satisfactory. They reiterated that the number of trained staff members far surpasses diocesan requirements.
School Committee bylaws: Council discussed updated bylaws submitted the School Committee. Questions arose regarding relevance of the final paragraph under Article 4 Functions/Responsibilities (regarding the role of the principal) to the committee bylaws. Liaisons will ask the committee to clarify the purpose of its inclusion.
Parish Committees meetings: Council discussed possible coordination of committee meetings and the difficulty of balancing schedules.
Review Goals and Accomplishments: Tabled to next meeting.

Committee Reports:
Human Concerns – No report.
Faith Formation – Discipleship attendance for the semester numbers 108 students. Youth Outreach participation stands at 53 students. Possible open discussion to address questions regarding religious education curriculum may be held after the New Year.
Finance – Year to Date budget is down $29,000. Committee is addressing handling of recent donation. Committee is considering a review of parish financials. Quote for an audit/review range from $3500 to $7500, considered a non-professional review. The committee decided to form an internal audit committee. Council approved formation of an ad hoc committee to form said audit review committee.
School - SPA listening sessions have concluded, with turnout lower than expected. Committee waiting for results of Vision 21st Century to further clarify future committee goals; current goals include further investigation of Project Lead the Way and religion curriculum assessment tools. (Planned visit to St. Roman’s in Milwaukee where Project Lead the Way is in place.) Committee is discussing Distinguished Graduate Award. Volleyball Classic was successful; Basketball Classic is scheduling. Athletic Committee added new members. Adult Volleyball Open Gym Night continues monthly; Development Committee will send out post cards during the Christmas Season to all parish 3-, 4- and 5-year olds. Committee approved a waiver for changing foreign language at the junior high level
Tuition Collection Ad Hoc Committee – Letter was sent home at the end of the first quarter to address any accounts behind on payment. Committee is currently drafting a procedural flow chart with corresponding written procedures document.
Seniors - Deacon Mark is exploring a finance presentation for seniors in 2009.
Sagrada Familia - Earl is moving forward with the pen pal initiative between Sagrada Familia and HAS students.
Deacon’s Report: Dinner for Two set for March 11, 2009. NFP Workshop will be held after the New Year. Deacon is exploring a finance workshop for young married couples in 2009.
Pastor’s Report: Another round of consultation for Vision 21st Century is planned for December 3rd (3:30 – 5:00 and 7:00 – 8:30) at SFC. Pastors, principals and archdiocesan representatives will meet in December to discuss formal committee guidelines. Jack Trzebiatowski has moved, leaving his position on the council vacant with 1 ˝ years remaining. Council agreed by consensus to ask the next person from last spring’s selection process.
Christmas Social: December 11th: All standing committee members and spouses are invited to attend the gathering, set for 7:00 pm. Please bring something to pass.
