Parish Rectory Lower Level Meeting Room, 7:30 PM
In Attendance: Fr. Jerry Brittain, Deacon Mark Jansen, Paula Beine, Don Felix, Marilynn Gundrum, Earl VanderWielen, Harry German, Colleen Mas. Guests: Lauren DuCharme, Mike Melaney, Jack Daniels.
Absent: Fr. Rick Wendell, Sandy Lang, Steve Albinger, Jack Trzebiatowski, Mike Nowak, Dan Hanrahan.
Opening Prayer / Scripture Reflection / Personal Prayer: Led by Don Felix.
Guest presentation: La Sagrada Familia. Lauren and Mike shared a slide show of pictures and information regarding their eight-day visit to Sagrada Familia in conjunction with the Diocese. They shared preliminary recommendations for future visits (perhaps quarterly) and means of further developing our parish relationship with this parish. They will also share additional pictures with the HA School students at the upcoming Monday Morning Assembly.
Final Presentation of Parish Budget 2008-2009: Jack Daniels. Jack reviewed details of the parish budget following up on our discussion last month. At its meeting earlier this evening, the finance committee recommended approval of this budget. The council members in attendance also came to consensus; Paula will forward this budget to absent council members, seeking their consensus as well. Jack will also post the budget overview on the parish website.
Approval of Previous Minutes: The council reached consensus regarding the February minutes after noting a few spelling errors. J
Council Nomination Committee: The committee, composed of Earl, Mike and Sandy, will begin the process both Easter Weekend and 3/29-3/30 by posting announcements in the parish bulletin giving information regarding Parish Council, and encouraging the parish to prayerfully considering nominations. Nominations will be called for 4/5-4/6.
Committee Reports:
School Board: Colleen shared an update on the School Board. The Ad Hoc committee on Dress Code finalized recommendations for a stricter dress code on Mass days. An Ad Hoc Committee composed of teachers and board members will address the Wellness Policy. An Ad Hoc Committee coordinating the school board election process for next year will be making phone calls to those nominated.
Quad Parish Seniors: Harry reported that the trip planned for 4/22 was rescheduled for 4/29 because of a conflict with the Coptic Church calendar. Meanwhile, plans are underway for an August trip to St. Norbert’s that would include Mass with the Bishop and a dinner cruise on the Fox River in Winneconne. Additionally, the group is considering a trip to Racine Dominican and a Greek Orthodox Church in Racine for the month of September, as well as a visit to Our Lady of Snows in St. Louis in October.
Volunteer Coordinating and Deacon’s Report: Deacon Mark reviewed the Ministry Appreciation Dinner and the New Member Luncheon. Earl agreed to represent the council at the reenactment of the Washing of Feet at Holy Thursday services.
Human Concerns: Marilynn noted that the Flower Sale will begin with pre-orders in April, followed by the sale on Mother’s Day. Proceeds will go to Friends for Life. The parish will also staff the Harvest House meal on the third Saturday of April. The Faith in Recovery program will launch later this spring.
Pastor’s Report: Discussion of the Parish Bulletin.
Father Jerry presented information regarding options for printing our parish bulletin.
Currently, Dennis at ProPrint prints our bulletins, but his equipment is limited to printing our current size bulletin only, with one color on the front and only black inside. Dennis will soon renew his annual $180 advertising contracts with our parish sponsors. Dennis donates approximately $4500 toward parish printing annually.
Liturgical Publications is a national bulletin printing company, which originated in Milwaukee. They offer two options: a) Glossy paper copier-type printing, with a $6000 printing donation/rebate and an $8000 signing bonus; b) Non-glossy, 4-color ink printing, with a $7000 printing donation/rebate and a $12,000 signing bonus. The paper size offers the opportunity to add or subtract text pages as needed, which would affect debit/credit toward the rebate amount. Ads cost $295 annually.
St. George (which spun-off of LPI) offers only digital color printing on their high-speed copier. While they offer a $2000 printing donation/rebate, they do not offer a signing bonus. Advertising costs $300/year. Like LPI, St. George’s paper size offers flexibility with adding or subtracting text pages as needed.
The board will readdress this topic after further reflection on the following questions in particular: What are our parish’s bulletin needs? Should we consider surveying the parish? Since St. Frances and St. Mary’s currently utilize LPI, would there be additional benefits if we also utilized their service? Does our parish need a bulletin insert policy?
Closing Prayer: Led by Deacon Mark.
Adjourned: 9:55 pm
