Guest Discussion Regarding Parish Festival:
Paul Fichtner raised 3 areas of concern regarding the
parish festival.
- Friday and Saturday Night Music Selection
- Inquiring into the band selection process to
understand if there is pastoral oversight into this area.
- Concern over music lyrics (provided lyric copies
to council of some songs the bands played).
- Concerns over protecting children and others from
the lyrics that project beyond the walls of the tent.
- Inappropriate merchandise being sold by the bands.
- Gambling
- Pull Tabs – as a parish, do we have a
responsibility in this area? Are there individuals with gambling issues
that we are further tempting?
- Do we have an Alcohol policy?
- Several intoxicated individuals were observed.
- Does the parish take on liability for alcohol
related issues?
- Do volunteers get places in positions of
responsibility for alcohol related issues?
A request was made to determine if appropriate oversight is
being applied to these areas to coincide with the mission of the parish.
The council concluded that the Festival Committee would be
invited to report on the 2008 festival at one of the next council meetings and
these issues would be discussed.
Approval of Previous Minutes: Motion to approve May
Minutes by Jack Trzebiatowski , Second by Mike Nowack and approved by
consensus.
Discussion of HA School Past Due Tuition
- Fr. Jerry raised the issue of families with past due
tuition is an issue that needs to be addressed in the school
- For the 2007/08 school year there is currently
approximately $50,000 of past due tuition.
- Fr. Jerry provided 10 anonymous examples of past due
tuition situations.
- Mike Sternig is looking for guidance from the council
on how to manage past due tuition.
- There is currently a mechanism for families to request
tuition assistance which some families have done, however some families have
not attempted to make those arrangements.
- Discussion continued on the billing and collection
process, tuition assistance available, and process for obtaining tuition
assistance.
- Council concluded to establish a committee which will
research and develop policy and report at an upcoming council meeting.
Update on Vision 21st Century – Living Our
Faith Directives relating to West Bend Cluster Parishes
- Fr. Jerry shared excerpts from Fr. Jim Connell’s final
report Living Our Faith in the 21st Century which was sent
to Archbishop Dolan in June. The content and status of the report stand
simply as recommendations. Archbishop Dolan will make the final
determinations and present his pastoral plan at a time that he deems
appropriate. The report includes a directive that Holy Angels and St.
Mary’s develop a proposal for the consolidation of the two schools using
both sites but a common governance. The proposal is due by April 2009.
- If Archbishop Dolan includes this directive in his
pastoral plan, the Council will discuss developing the committee that will
develop the proposal for consolidation.
Archdiocesan Capital Campaign: Faith in Our Future:
- Fr. Jerry provided an outline of committee’s that will
be formed for the Capital Campaign as provided by the campaign consultant.
- A schedule was also presented for the Capital Campaign
beginning with a deadline of the Case Statement submission which is due
7/29/08 which outlines our use of the funds generated by the campaign.
- An initial meeting for Case Statement development was
set for July 10th at 6:30 in the Rectory.
Intra-Parish Communication
- Paula raised an issue that was discussed during the
visit with the School Committee of seeking better Intra-Parish
communication.
- After much discussion the council concluded that with
our experience in posting Council Meeting Minutes on the Parish Web-site and
open access, that this would be a good venue for open access to all
committee minutes.
- The council committee liaison’s will contact all
committee chair-people and request that effective in August 2008 minutes be
sent to Jack Trzebiatowski for posting after each meeting.
