Angels Parish Council Meeting
January 17, 2008
Parish Rectory Lower Level Meeting Room, 7:30 PM
In Attendance: Fr. Jerry Brittain, Fr. Rick Wendell, Deacon Mark Jansen, Paula Beine, Mike Nowak, Sandi Lang, Earl VanderWielen, Jack Trzebiatowski, Harry German, Colleen Mas.
Guests: Jack Daniels, Joe Carlson.
Absent: Don Felix, Marilynn Gundrum, Steve Albinger, Dan Hanrahan.

Approval of Previous Minutes: November Minutes not available.
Review of Parish Budget and Forecast: Jack Daniels
Jack presented an overview of the initial budget projections for
2008-2009. Discussion pursued regarding Parish School budget items, including
tuition increase as opposed to parish subsidy. Fr. Jerry also brought forward
for consideration upcoming parish participation in the Diocesan fund drive, set
for next October. A diocesan representative will have more information for the
parish in late spring. Item was tabled for additional future discussion.
School Board Bylaws and School Mission Statement:
Council approved by consensus the Board’s proposed changes to
the mission statement, which add reference to the guidance of the Holy Spirit as
well as students’ growth in faith, knowledge and values. Council also approved
by consensus the Board’s proposed changes to Paragraph 1 Item #5 of the Board
Bylaws regarding Membership, which notes that registered members of Holy Angels
Parish as well as Catholic parents of HA School are eligible to serve on the
School Board. Additional observations regarding the Bylaws will be forwarded to
the School Board for consideration.
Standing Committee Guidelines:
Council approved by consensus changes to Article IV Section 1,
which reflects updates to the Membership on the School Board.
Sagrada Familia Trip Representation:
Council approved by consensus substitution of Mike Melaney in
place of Earl VanderWielen. Mike has been involved in service outreach with the
parish and welcomes this opportunity.
Committee Reports:
School Board: Paula reported on the School Board meeting of 1/16/08. An Ad Hoc committee has been established to further explore Dress Code issues, concentrating in particular on dress code for Mass Days. Board continues to discuss holding recess prior to the lunch period as a mean for furthering the Wellness Policy. Budget considerations include adding 15 minutes of instructional time to the school day as well as offering 3% salary increases. Board would like to offer free instruction fees for new school families who are referred by current school families (1-for-1 match). Board is also further examining appropriateness of library content in light of discussion regarding The Golden Compass and other books with questionable material. A Summer School Program is under consideration for 2008.
Quad Parish Seniors: Harry reported on the group trip 1/15 which was rescheduled from 12/11. Bus traveled to Taste of Home, Aliota’s for lunch, and St. Anthony’s in Menomonee Falls in the afternoon.
Dinner for Two: Currently 23 couples are registered for the 2/9 event. Signup deadline is Monday 1/28.
