Minutes of Holy Angels Parish Council Meeting
February 21, 2008
Parish Rectory Dining Room, 7:30 PM
 

In Attendance:  Fr. Jerry Brittain, Deacon Mark Jansen, Paula Beine, Don Felix, Marilynn Gundrum, Mike Nowak, Earl VanderWielen, Harry German, Dan Hanrahan. Colleen Mas.  Guests:  Jack Daniels, Mike Sternig, Greg Rinn.

Absent:  Fr. Rick Wendell, Sandi Lang, Steve Albinger, Jack Trzebiatowski, 

Opening Prayer / Scripture Reflection / Personal Prayer:  Led by Harry German. 

Approval of Previous Minutes:  November and January Minutes approved. 

Review of Parish Budget and School Budget:  Mike presented an overview of the budget projections for the school.  He explained certain factors that affect the income side, including the projected enrollment for next year, the decline in recent Football Fever Raffle profits, and a proposed increase in the number of Football raffle tickets each school family will be required to sell.  He also reviewed the expenses, including the proposed 3% salary increase for ’08-’09, 5% tuition increase, no increase in the instructional fee, and the difference between the general budget and the instructional budget. Jack clarified how the school budget works in relationship to the parish budget.  The council also discussed the upcoming diocesan capital campaign and possible ramifications for the budget.  The council approved a subsidy of $648,000 (46% of parish budget) for the school. 

Council Nomination Committee: The council discussed the schedule of events for seeking nominations for next year’s membership.  A committee was established, composed of Earl and Mike.  Committee will get the schedule dates to the parish secretary and oversee the process. 

APC Meeting: Marilyn will represent the council at the APC meeting on 2/28. 

Committee Reports:

            School Board:  Dan gave an update on the School Board.  The Ad Hoc committee on Dress Code will finalize recommendations in March.  The Wellness Policy will be readdressed in March.  Nominations for School Board members for next year will be accepted until March 7th; announcements will be made in the school newsletter and in the church bulletin.  Following up from last meeting, the Board determined that the Library policy is in keeping with the mission statement. 

            Quad Parish Seniors:  Harry reported on the planned trip for 4/22 to St. Josaphat’s Basilica, Krocus restaurant, a south-side Orthodox Church, and a tour of Froedert Hospital by bus.

            Dinner for Two:  Deacon Mark reported that 37 couples enjoyed a wonderful evening on 2/8.

            Human Concerns:  Marilyn reported that Rice Bowls are available during Lent.  The Harvest House welcomed 86 people for its last lunch.  Faith in Recovery Meeting will be 3/6 at 6pm in the Rectory.

            Pastor’s Report:  Father Jerry suggested the council further discuss the bulletin next month.  The council also discussed future Quad Parish Retreat possibilities.
